Seven Baha'i leaders face spying charges

Seven leaders of the Baha'i face spying trials in Iran. They are accused of gathering intelligence for Israel. Iran does not recognize Israel as a state and it is suspected that these charges are politically motivated. If convicted these men will receive lenghy prison sentances or even the death penalty.

  1. Is the Baha'i faith tolerated by the Iranian regiem? It might not be political oppression as much as religious oppression. On the other hand, I've heard that Christians and Jews are tolerated very well in Iran, so maybe it does have to do with politics. And let's not discount the possibility that they really are spies. Israel has an extensive spy network, so it's entirely possible.
