Mayor Rahm Emanuel has pocketed roughly $387,000 in fees over three years by issuing demerits for “minor infractions” on students. Things such as not sitting up straigh, eating the wrong kinds of food, and getting detentions can cost you money out of your pocket in the Chicago charter school. There is a list of forbidden contents and if you are to have or do any of these things you will be charged for it. Something as small as a detention will cost you $5. Payment plans are available for the truly needy and in some rare cases, fees are waived.
If you ask me I think this whole thing is ridiculous. Students should not be charged for things like not sitting up straight. What makes it even worse is the Mayor gets to just pocket the money, It doesn't go toward the school in any way.

  2. I don't think that's right if I was attending that school i'd probably be pretty broke! I think the rules are just over the top.
