Car collides with Amtrak train bound from Seattle to L.A., killing man and injuring girl

Authorities are trying to determine why a car collided with an Amtrak train near Guadalupe, about 10 miles west of Santa Maria in California.

The crash was reported around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday along state Highway 1. The driver of the car, a Ford Focus, was killed, and the infant girl riding in the car was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center.

Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said none of the 132 passengers or crew aboard the train reported injuries.

The train, traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles, was delayed about four hours.

There is only a stop sign at the dirt road crossing.
