A burnt down yard in the National Prison compound in Comayagua

At least 300 people were killed, and dozens suffocated in a fire that swept through a Honduras prison.
Many victims were burned or suffocated to death in their cells in Comayagua, north of the capital Tegucigalpa. Relatives fought with police as they tried to get news, police respond by firing shots and tear gas in the air. An inquiry was is under way on whether the fire was from and electrical circuit or rioting.

This is crazy. Ha.

  1. Wow this has me asking questions! Such as why weren't the prisoners evacuated from the prison!

    1. ^Seriously. That's pretty terrible that such emergency procedures weren't taken into effect.

  2. The police could have taken better responsibility in knowing that there was a fire in the building. I understand why the prisoner's relatives responded the way they did because relatives should be informed about the endangerment of their loved one. The police should check themselves and their safety precautions, and just because the prisoners are criminals doesn't mean that they were meant to die or even have a part in the fire. The law makes the decision for death penalties not the police. I feel like the police left them to die.

  3. That is pretty wrong that the right measures were not taken to save these lives. I think this situation should be looked more heavily into then what is being done now.
