F.C. Portland coach is arrested after abusing a 16 year old girl.
F.C. Portland coach Dean A. Fowell was arrested for sexually abusing a 16 year old girl. Fowell is being held in the Washington County Jail. Sgt. Bob Ray said they have enough evidence to make the arrest. The police suspect that there may be more victims. The 16 year old girl Fowell abused was not even on his team. Fowell has been coaching F.C. Portland for two years now and he has not had any problems besides this one. The last coach was arrested for the same he had given alcohol and marijuana to a minor who he also abused of. Why would someone do this? Doing this makes people more suspicious of hiring a coach for their team. Before getting the job they already give you a criminal background, what else can we do to make sure our future coaches are safe.

Measures need to be taken to prevent this kind of stuff from happening. Background checks don’t seem to be doing the job; I think that when being hired some new way of questioning employees should be made to lesson the chance of hiring such a person.
ReplyDeleteYikes. It seems like every week there is a new story about some young girl getting sexually assaulted by an adult male. It's even worse that these men are often times somebody in authority, whether that be a coach, PE teacher, or boss. I feel like a more appropriate background check should be in order to anybody applying for a job if they would have authority, or be in significant contact, with persons of the opposite sex if said persons are not of age.
