On Saturday, a mans monkey bit a young girl at the Riverfront Park in Salem. The monkey only left two puncture wounds under the girls left eye. She has been given antibiotics for the wound. The man and his monkey left before the police could come and they still don't know where they are or who the man is.
Are people allowed to own monkeys? Shouldn't the girl have asked whether it was okay to pet the monkey? I am not excusing its behavior, but it is a common rule to ask the owner whether it is okay to pet a dog. Why should this rule be different for wild animals? I read this story. It is unfortunate that this happened to the girl, but monkeys are wild. That's why they are kept behind cages at zoos.
ReplyDeleteYesterday the owner of the monkey, Warren S. Welke, came forward and spoke the press. The monkey is a companion provided by an organization because Welke has a medical condition. Him, his mother, and the monkey were meeting a friend and the girl who was allegedly bitten came to the monkey and Welke told her not to several times. The girl continued to go closer and closer to the monkey and the monkey jumped on the shoulders of the girl and the puncture wounds were from it's fingernails (the monkey had no teeth)
ReplyDeleteWelke was not supposed to bring the monkey out in public. The organization that provided him the monkey for his condition has specific rules that say that the monkey should stay at the owners residence unless a vet appointment and it must be in a carrier.
Clearly Welke was trying to stop the girl from getting close and she wouldn't listen but the monkey wasn't supposed to be just at a park on a leash. It was bad judgment on Welke's part.
According to wikianswers a monkey bite can cuase rabies so it was a good decision to give the girl antibiotics. At least she hasn't become a zombie......... yet! I swear to golly if there is an infestation of zombification I'm gonna loot a walmart.
ReplyDeleteThis is completley the girls fault. She was warned several times and still didn't listen. The monkey was for a medical reason and had an ok reason to have it he shouldn't of brang it out there but the girl was being stupid and tried to pet a monkey. Her fault and she is the only one to blame
ReplyDeleteI think the little girls mom should've told the little girl to not try to pet the monkey! Monkeys are wild and can be dangerous. The man has it for a medical reason.. the mom should be the one to be blamed for this one.
ReplyDeleteIt is definatly the little girls fault. She was warned several times and didn't listen. Welke is also to blame, he was told not to bring the monkey out in public.
ReplyDeleteUm. Why was there a monkey at the park?
ReplyDeleteShould the dog laws apply to monkeys? Where when a dog bites a person the dog gets put down. People are often bitten by monkeys! Since when is it okay to have a pet monkey?! Can I have a pet Giraffe? NOOOOO I don't think so. But If I could, I would do that right away.
OH, let me find some information about that because now I really want one. Welp, just looked it up on google and they told me no. You may not have a pet giraffe. :( But I still don't think it's okay to have a pet monkey.
